The Homan Family

July Update

Wow, it has been a while since an update… I guess that is a testament to how busy life has been lately.

Work has still been progressing well, and the building is nearly complete! Kyle has been putting in long hours at the property as well as working on my future office space for Homan Family Chiropractic!

You remember those shoots that we thought were raspberry… well, we are close, they are black raspberry shoot! And we have so many of the along the border of the field! We also found several Mulberry trees and a few blackberries. The girls had a blast picking and eating them! Now we need to figure out some sort of weed management to make it easier to gather them and also reduce the risk of running into any poison ivy…

The garlic that we planted last fall has been harvested but we did that on one of those extremely hot days and no pictures were taken. We had a great crop and now they are curing before we store it away to be used over the year!

We have continued to explore along the creek and found several great paths and one that will lead to what the girls are now calling the beach. There is a gradual decline to the water and then the water is a very gradual slope out. This is so different to our previous property where the only way to get to the water was by going straight down about 8 feet.

My dad planted a small section of sweet corn that seems to be doing well. A lot of grass has been planted and it is mostly doing well, but the weeds are also growing well… so that is a battle that will hopefully get taken care of soon! We put a few packs of pumpkin seeds in the ground but we really are not sure what is happening with them due to the weeds I just mentioned…

As we continue to work on developing this land, I will share what I can!
